Enjoy Respect Venezia: 12 pieces of advice to visit Venice responsibly
#EnjoyRespectVenezia is the campaign by the City of Venice to raise awareness and guide visitors to act responsibly and respectfully towards the environment, the landscape, the artistic beauty and identity of Venice. And to encourage a way of travelling that is compatible with the residents' daily life.
The 12 practical pieces of advice from the #EnjoyRespectVenezia campaign
1. Discover the hidden treasures in Venice in the less popular places to appreciate their beauty.
2. Explore the islands in the lagoon and mainland Venice, and take part in the events held throughout the city.
3. Try the local products and traditional dishes in Venetian cuisine.
4. Visit the ancient craft shops that still exist in Venice today.
5. Book guided tours with qualified tourist guides, who will tell you the thousand-year-old history of Venice.
6. Walk on the right, don't stop on the bridges, don't ride or even push your bike.
7. The monuments, church steps, bridges, wells and pavements are not picnic areas. Use the public parks for your refreshments.
8. The area of Saint Mark's Square is a monumental site and you are not allowed to stand outside the spaces reserved for consuming food and drink.
9. Venice is a city of art: you are not permitted to bivouac or camp out, or walk around bare-chested, dive and swim. To find a beach, go to Lido and Pellestrina.
10. Respect the environment and the artistic heritage: do not leave your rubbish, do not daub graffiti or drawings or fasten love locks and do not feed the pigeons.
11. If you are staying in an apartment, recycle your rubbish. 1
2. Plan your trip and choose to visit Venice when it is less crowded. Find out which days any day visitors have to pay the Access Fee.
